Wire-Feeding is the process of adding chemicals in the form of solid elemental or alloy metals into molten steel to get the proper chemistry.
Since these cored wires are added below the slag layer when the steel sheath melts away, a far more precise addition is made, then with the bulk alloy elements added on top of the slag layer. These coils contain the chemical elements in the form of powder. The coils are fed through a machine known as a wire feeder. The wire is then pushed through the machine, typically by the effort of drive-wheels, electricity and air-pressure into the guide tubes before it is funneled into the ladle. These functions are controlled by an HMI Interface, which displays the appropriate length and speed of the coil being fed into the ladle. Not all wire feeders are created equally.
