P.C. Campana wire is delivered on steel pallets that the company fabricates in its Lorain facility.

“We are the only manufacturer that makes all-steel pallets and the tubing used for shipping our products; our competitors use wood.”

Wooden pallets are subject to breakage, which can render spilled wire unusable. They are also problematic because they decompose around busy steelyards unless they are hauled from the property, an added expense.

“Our pallets serve multiple purposes,” says Kelly. “Steel is durable and can survive significantly more abuse than a wooden or plastic skid.”

Additionally, environmental waste is minimized. Workers can toss the steel pallets into the ladle to melt or recycle them for another purpose.

“Initially, new customers offer to return them and are surprised we don’t ask for them back,” says Kobylarz. “There are some creative guys in the mills who will make them into shelving or something useful.”
